Date of Event : Thu Mar 22, 2018 3:37PM

The Junior Grand Finals were played in beautiful conditions over the Labour Day weekend, commencing on Friday night and most games concluding on Sunday morning.

The U18 GF concluded on the Friday night with a convincing win to Holy Trinity/Preston Druids over Dennis. Dennis won the toss and chose to bat on the previous Friday night. They started well with a first wicket stand of 41 from Mackenzie Skinner (26) and Angus Green (15) but fell away to be all out for 88. Leo Manteit was the destroyer with the ball taking 6/11 and securing the player of the match medal. Holy Trinity/Preston Druids cruised to victory finishing on 3/91 in the 24th over. Harry Tauber starred with the bat finishing on (45no).

Player of the match - Leo Manteit

The U15s Bill Wyatt Division One final was the first of many tight finals over the weekend. North Alphington won the toss and batted their full 40 overs but were restricted to only 8/119cc due to some terrific tight bowling by Bundoora Park with the wickets shared around. Vihanga Kumarage (25) and Jo Varcoe (22no) were the best of the batting for NACC. Bundoora Park seemed to be cruising to victory with player of the match Alex Johnston making a 50no with support from Jack Martorana (24) and Henry Stratford-Browne (6) taking the score to 2/98. Bundoora Park then lost 6/13 with Kumarage 3/13 and Luke Waters 3/13 giving North Alphington a chance. However, Daniel Gikovski (21no) carried Bundoora Park through to victory finishing on 7/120 after a few anxious moments.

Player of the match - Alex Johnston

The U15 Norm Coulson Division Two final was another close one with PYCWD's decision to send North Alphington in to bat on Friday night seemed to be a good one with NACC only making 109 in their 40 overs. Adib Sadman 4/10 and Hamish Kemp 3/23 were the stars with the ball and Lewis Mudie (27) and Dom Edwards (17) offering some resistance to the excellent bowling performance by PYCW. On day two, PYCW never looked like they were in the hunt after losing 7/36, then were 8/46 and at 9/54 all seemed lost. However, a fighting (35no) by Patrick Davies with support from Harry Aitken (9) gave PYCW a sniff before eventually falling all out for 92. Dom Edwards claimed the player of the match medal with his 2/9 off 7 overs and 17 with the bat.

The U13 Heather Baillie Division One was a thriller going down to the final over. North Alphington posted an excellent score on day one, only losing 3 wickets for 154 runs in their 40 overs. It was going to be a difficult run chase but Ivanhoe led by player of the match Ryley Bamford (37no), Ryder Mantello (23) and the ever reliable Trent McManus (21) got home with a score of 6/158 in the 40th over.

The U13 North Division Rosebank/North Brunswick v Rivergum was played under the split innings format and at the end of day one it was anyone's final - Rivergum 0/57 v Rosebank 0/66. Rosebank continued their innings on day two and finished with a hard to beat 5/158, led by Brody Olarenshaw 36no and Ollie Capaldo 35no. Rivergum looked out of it with wickets falling regularly and the run chase getting away but a late rally saw them just fall short by 3 runs at the end of their 40 overs. Jack Bell had a great game with 35no and 2/16, Jack Morley 44no were the stars for Rivergum. For Rosebank, Jet Talarico took 3/23 off 5 overs. It was tough decision for the umps with so many good performances but Ollie Capaldo won the player of the match medal.

The U13 South Division was an all West Ivanhoe Roosters affair and also played under the split innings format. The top team Roosters Blue were too strong for the Roosters Green team finishing with a score of 8/159cc. Guy Thomson 2/7 and Alex Ralphs 2/8 bowled superbly for the Green team. Roosters Green made a total of 110 with Aidan Helliar top scoring with 18 and Finn Lawson also contributing with 16. There were no player stats posted for Roosters Blue.
